Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends,
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends…
-The Beatles, “With a Little Help from My Friends” (1967)

Japanese Translation: miko

When I was 13 years old, my cram school teacher (an intelligent gentleman in his 30’s) told the classroom this – “You know, Sailor Moon depicts women’s attitiude towards today’s society very well (it was back in the 1990’s)…  They’re willing to fight, but when they’re really in trouble, they call on Darien (Tuxedo Mask – who is Sailor Moon’s boyfriend).”  I don’t think my teacher meant to make anyone feel bad.  He was just trying to make the class think about society.  “True…” is what I thought.  At the same time I got the impression that for women to claim that they are independent, they have to be able to do everything by themselves.  Having grown up, I understand that this is not the case at all.  I personally am very bad at asking for help, and any feedback I have received from my past bosses will include the comment “you need to learn how to ask for help.”  Whether you are a man or woman, nothing in the world can be done without someone’s cooperation, and we (I) should not be ashamed to admit that.  You made the right choice to ask for help, Sailor Moon!

*I’ve added 2 new works to my “Artworks” page.  Please come and take a look!
